Adventure CampActivities--> CrossWoods’ six day Adventure Camps are packed full of excitement and life lessons. From the minute groups arrive, they are challenged and encouraged to participate in activities that stretch them both physically and spiritually. Students will do things that they probably have never done before. They will learn to trust themselves, their friends, and their God in new and wonderful ways. Those who participate in CrossWoods’ adventure activities find that in taking the risk to do new and challenging activities, they become more willing to take the risk to follow our Lord more fully. Mountain biking, rock climbing and rappelling, “survivor hikes”, whitewater canoeing, ropes course events, and a whole host of other activities are incorporated into each one week experience, Adventure games, sherpa walks and bonfires are all part of the standard fare at a CrossWoods Adventure Camp. Our camps are fun, challenging, and action-packed. They are intended to give students a feel for life in the wilderness and life on the edge. We have seen students’ lives changed in amazing ways during their week at Adventure Camp.--> CrossWoods provides all the equipment necessary for groups of all ability levels to enjoy a safe experience. We use Marin mountain bikes, Mammut ropes, Kelty backpacks, Black Diamond climbing hardware, Mad River and Old Town canoes, and the latest in high quality camping gear. A comprehensive first aid kit is brought on all Adventure Camp experiences.
Programs--> Evening programs are integral to CrossWoods Adventure Camps. They are designed to help students make the connection between their activities during the day and their lives of faith. All of our programs are age-appropriate and highly relevant to the concerns of young people in the new millennium. Most evening programs feature a combination of games, skits, small group interaction, music, and inspirational talks that foster spiritual growth. Adult group leaders and students are often asked to participate in the programs. Staff--> CrossWoods understands that the success of our ministry is highly dependent upon the quality of the leadership involved. For this reason, we hire our staff members very carefully and require them to undergo extensive training in wilderness skills, small group facilitation, and first aid so that all experiences are as fun, safe and meaningful as possible. Our staff members are people of integrity and faith.--> What makes CrossWoods a bit different, however, is that we rely heavily upon the leadership of the adults who come with the students. We believe that adults who work with students throughout the year know and understand them much better than our staff members who come into contact with them for a period of only a few days, encouraging students to take experiences from camp and apply them to everyday life. Therefore, we ask that all groups participating in a CrossWoods Adventure Camp bring one adult leader for every seven students. Adult leaders are housed with their students in group bunkhouses and are encouraged to participate in all of the adventure activities. Adventure Camp costs $340 per person
